Smart PJs – A Dumb Idea

This makes me want to scream, but I work in a library so I’m holding it in and only screaming here.  See if you have the same reaction:

For me it’s the idea of devices reading bedtime stories to children.  That’s what we have loving adults in our lives for.  Bedtime is a moment of connection, a way to show love and caring and compassion.  Sharing books that display our appreciation for nature, diversity, and life.

Soapbox dismounted.

  1. I thought this was a joke, then checked them out online. There really are Smart PJs. To make them even worse, if that;s possible, you can choose boy or girl pjs, with stories geared to each gender. Horrible on so many levels.

  2. and you know parents aren’t really going to be involved – it’s going to be a kid scanning themselves with their phone…alone…I can’t believe that many people will really get into this though.

  3. Thanks for sharing this. I think it does show how Q codes have lots of potential – eg recipes on back of food packaging. But have to agree that along with the crib and potty with in build ipad I don’t think the world is made better by these.

  4. I completely agree with you. Reading to my Kiddo at bestime was so important and really helped forge a bond. Also it is a time when kids might bring up things that are bothering them after relaxing with a bedtime story and a chance to waylay fears them might have. I still miss those close moments.

  5. Not to mention the fact that adults are cautioned against screen time before bed as it disrupts sleep. Now kids are going to be treated for sleep disorders!?
