David, I thought you’d be pleased to hear that JPS is reprinting THE ANSWERED PRAYER AND OTHER YEMENITE TALES in paper in the Spring of 2004. I had to find some information for the new marketing person and went through our long (!) correspondence, beginning in 1981 and terminating when you left JPS. I want to thank you again for your so many helpful suggestions and skillful editing. Without your persistence and encourage, the book would never have come to be.
I read your Cam Jansen books with interest and am so pleased to see on your website the many beautiful books you’ve written and published.
happy new year.

Hi Mr. Adler,
I am a 2nd grade teacher in Connecticut. Some of my students are enjoying your Cam Jansen books. One of the assignments I gave to them was to write a letter to a favorite author and ask him or her some questions about their books. One of my students wrote this letter to you. We would be thrilled if you had some time to write back to him. It is written “word-for-word” by my student. Thanks in advance for your time and patience.
Sincerely,
Valerie Doyle
Dear David A. Adler,
I have some questions for you: #1. Why do you put so many “said” words in your stories? For example, “Cam said…”, “Eric said…”, “Cam said…” Well, you get my point.
Sincerely, Kyle
I think the reason he is asking you this is because we are really working on writing fictional narratives in 2nd grade without using a lot of conversation – and if the children do write with dialogue, they are encouraged to come up with words other than “said.” I promised I would send the letter to you, though. Thanks again for understanding!
