Anthony Browne is New Children’s Laureate

Anthony Browne is the new British Children’s Laureate.  He is taking over from Michael Rosen and is the 6th person to hold the position.  Known for his gorillas, Browne has published nearly 40 titles.  In 2000, Browne was the first British children’s author to win the Hans Christian Andersen Medal.  Browne will be laureate for 2 years.

What a wonderful choice!  You can check out some of his work in an online gallery.  I look forward to seeing what he brings to this unique role.

  1. I can appreciate Anthony Browne for his artwork, which is fabulous, but I have never particularly liked his books. I find the characters strangely menacing, which is not a quality I like in a picture book. I wish him luck anyway, he seems to be a really nice chap.

  2. Hi. Tasha:
Could have sent an email but since I was here, this is easier. I have enjoyed reading many of your entries and want to let you know that I am now working on my library/media degree through UWSSLEC, the UW consortium.

As you probably know, many things have changed at GL. Many, many staff members are gone and things have not been going so well. Enrollment has gone from 350 to about 250 for all. Worried about the direction they are going in.
Anyway, I have worked the past two years as a librarian at a Catholic school in West Bend and am enjoying it. Just wanted to let you know how much I like your work on the Menasha Lib. website. Plan to use it for a class I am now taking, so watch for me to respond to some of your posts.
