Best Book Lists

Two new best book lists were released recently.  I love these for adding to my to-read lists but also for finding my favorites on them too.

The New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2010 has a delightful list of books this year.  So many of my favorite reads made the list that I am quite tickled!

Publisher’s Weekly also has their Best Children’s Books out.  Sadly, I can only get the first page to show up because it wants me to log in.  I will have to wait rather impatiently for the library’s copy to cross my desk.  Perhaps you will have more luck.

2010 Booktrust Teenage Prize Winner

Unhooking the Moon by Gregory Hughes has won the 2010 Booktrust Teenage Prize.  This is a debut novel written by a deep sea diver.  I’m already intrigued!

National Book Award Finalists

Here are the finalists for the Young People’s Literature category of the 2010 National Book Award.

Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi (my review)

Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine (my review)

Dark Water by Laura McNeal

Lockdown by Walter Dean Myers

One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia (my review)

Children’s Book Guild 2011 Nonfiction Award

The Children’s Book Guild has awarded the 2011 Nonfiction Award to Kathleen Krull. Author of nonfiction books that are such fun to read as well as well-researched and fascinating.  No one quite mixes the humor of life with nonfiction as Krull does.  I am looking forward to her new titles too!

Cybils 2010

I am very excited to be part of the Cybils again this year.  In the last few years, I have been part of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Panel.  It’s great to be back where I originally started in the Young Adult Fiction category.  This time as a Round 2 judge.  Take a look at our entire YA panel here

So how can you be involved?  You can nominate one book in each of the categories between October 1st and October 15th.  The books have to have been published between October 16, 2009 and September 30, 2010.

The finalists in each category will be announced on New Years Day.  The winners will be announced on Valentines Day.

A huge thank you to everyone who puts their time and energy into these awards every year.  It is an honor to be a small part it.
