Ender’s Game – The Movie

Here is the first trailer for the upcoming Ender’s Game movie.  It comes out in November 2013.  Enjoy!

Graceling–The Movie

Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) Bitterblue (Graceling Realm, #3)

Just what I needed on a late Friday afternoon!  Variety reports that Reliance Entertainment is acquiring feature film rights to Kristin Cashore’s Graceling trilogy.  This is the same studio that is producing Vampire Academy as well.

My only worry is that the worlds that Cashore builds are political and complex.  I wouldn’t want to see any of my beloved series watered down or lost.

Tiger Eyes – The Movie Trailer

Tiger Eyes, the amazing novel by Judy Blume, has been made into a feature film. It was named the Best Feature Film at the Palm Beach International Film Festival this month. Now there is a gorgeous trailer for the film:

Shailene Woodley Offered Lead in The Fault in Our Stars

EW has news about the film version of The Fault in Our Stars.  After seeing over 250 girls audition for the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster, director Josh Boone has found his Hazel in Shailene Woodley.

Here is John Green’s reaction:

“I am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars,” John Green says. “It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie–and very exciting.”

Woodley has also been cast as the heroine in Divergent, so expect lots of YA Fiction fan fever to commence.

Maze Runner–The Movie

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1)

The film version of Maze Runner by James Dashner has been given a release date.  Director Wes Ball was announced last summer.  Now we know that the movie will be released on February 14, 2014.  This puts it a month earlier than the film version of Divergent, another teen dystopian film based on a book.  Should be quite a year!

Dashner has a new series starting this fall too!

Smokin’ Hot News–Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Universal Pictures has Joe Roth set to produce the film version of Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor.  The second book in the series is one that I’m waiting to read (I’m on the hold list at the library).   Last year, the film rights to the book were battled for between Universal and Paramount, ending in a high-six figure deal.

The author is enthusiastic about the producer selection:

“I am a huge fan of his big, gorgeous fantasy epics with powerful female characters. I can’t wait to see how he’ll bring my world to life on film. He’s the dream producer for this property, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Teen Books Become Movies

A couple pieces of news about teen novels that are being made into films:

The second Beautiful Creatures trailer has been released.  The movie is coming in February 2013.

The movie rights for Blackwood by Gwenda Bond have been purchased.  MTV is developing the film to be produced by Kelsey Grammer.

Angelfall–The Movie

I have yet to read Angelfall, a debut teen novel published by Amazon.  Susan Ee, author of the book, was courted by several publishers and chose to go with Amazon Children’s Publishing.  Her novel is on the bestseller list just after The Hunger Games.

According to Movieline, movie rights for the series have been acquired by Good Universe.  The second book in the series is expected next fall.

A Tale Dark & Grimm–The Movie

The Wrap has the news that FilmNation Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights for Adam Gidwitz’s A Tale Dark and Grimm.  The book will be made into a live-action film and will be FilmNation’s first family oriented project.

I am a big fan of both books in this series.  If you haven’t read them yet, you will want to, because I can’t see a film format capturing the irreverent tone of the books quite right.
