  1. Dear Mr. Fleischman,
I am doing a summer reading project on your book “Whirligig”. It was a great book. But I have a question for you that I can not seem to answer: What was the centrel metaphor of the book? I would appreciate it if you could email me the answer. You are a great writer that has very impressive work.

  2. Dear Paul,
I am a freshman student at St.Helena High School In the Napa Valley and my name is Zach Cole. I just read your book “SeedFolks”. If I had to grade your book I would say it was an “A” plus. I really enjoyed it. Of my top five favorite books, your book “SeedFolks” is in it. My favorite character was Sam because he inspired me to help other people that are in need and to be nice to anyone I meet, no matter what race they are. I have a question I would like you to answer. I was wondering if you were ever going to make a SeedFolks two? I think we read your book first because it talks about bringing people together. The themes I thought were significant were at the end where Kim is replanting the seeds; it is like she is repeating the garden and all its good works all over again. Thanks for writing a great book!
    Sincerely,
    Zach Cole

  3. Dear Mr. Fleischman,
I am a freshman student at St. Helena High School in the Napa Valley. My name is Francisco, and I just finished reading Seedfolks and I was wondering what happed to Maricela? Did she have the baby? Did Sae Young get remarried or did she still keep being by her herself? My favorite vignette character was Sam because he made other people talk to each other. He is just like me because I want to talk to everyone too. I think that we read it as the first text of high school because it was about connecting people together and working as a group to solve problems. Thanks for writing this wonderful book and I hope you have a another one like Seedfolks.
    Sincerely,
    Francisco

  4. Dear Paul,
My name is Tia and I am a freshman at St. Helena High School in the Napa Valley. If I rated Seedfolks on a scale from 1-5, I would give it a 5 because I really liked it because there are several connections I can make with all 13 vignettes except one (Gonzalo). Other than that, it was a very interesting and exciting book. My favorite was Sam, because he was a person who cared about everything and not just himself. He didn’t care what what color, religion, or culture people were. He would simply make conversation. We don’t have enough of those people. I feel that if we had more people like Sam; there would be peace between different people and there would maybe be less wars, not none, but less. I think Mrs. Eastman chose this book for us because it has won several awards and it taught us what vignettes are so when we read other books we won’t get lost in other peoples vignettes in those difficult books. Seedfolks was a great book. Thank you for writing it. We’re reading Whirligig next.
    Sincerely,
    Tia

  5. Dear Mr. Fleischman,
My name is Isabelle. I’m a freshman at St. Helena High School, in the Napa Valley. Our English class just read your book Seedfolks. On a scale from one to five, I rate your book a four. Your book is very well written. I appreciated how each character is totally diffrent from one another, and how everyone became friends. My favorite vignette was Maricela. She was surviving as a pregnant teenager, and how one little lady made her feel needed, and how she wanted to keep her baby. Reading from thirteen different view points was interesting. It was confusing at the begining but i caught on. I belive we read Seedfolks for the “first text in high school” because it shows you how so many diffrent people can connect with one little purpose. Even though people are of diffrent races and backrounds, people can still become friends, and chat up a conversation. This is why i like your book. Thank you for writing this wonderful book i really enjoyed it.
    Sincerly,
    Isabelle
