Escape from Memory by Margaret Peterson Haddix (0-689-85421-8)
This one is a real page turner. Kira lets her friends hypnotize her at a sleep over and while hypnotized she begins to speak in a foreign language and tell of escaping from a war. When she goes home and tells her mother, her mother is very evasive and won’t answer any questions about their past.
I won’t say more. What makes this book work is the tension and surprises around every corner. It is impossible to anticipate all the twists and turns in the plot, yet the ending is still sound and satisfying.
I would booktalk this to kids and I think with the right booktalk, you could even have some boys interested in the book. But be very careful not to give anything away!

I thought that escape from memory was a book htat i could relate to. I am a foster child and my parents didnt tell me until i was called to court by a cseworker to make sure i was okey and that i wanted to stay with them. Althought sometimes it isnt fair my best friend Mia did help me but things changed between us forever now not only is she my best friend but she is like family to me. I thought this book was a good learning book for anyone and it caught my attention instantly im glad i read escape from memory and i recomend it to anyone who is of age to understand some of it

I had to read a book for my report and write about it and this book was alittle weird. I didn’t like the ending that much though because it left too many unfinished plots for us to think about. The book was boring i guess but alittle fun.

I am doing a book report on this and I must make a Truism. Its challenging but it’s exciting. I read this book and was overwhelmed by the ending. It sucked that the book ended. I wouldnt have minded if it went on…:]

This book was really great! at first I thought i should switch with a different book but after i found out that about the leave of absence her mother took I just had to keep reading and i almost finished the book that night! It was too much for me to handle because after every page my mind just started coming up with all these conclusions that could happen. If you are just beginning this book and feel like switching it……..DON’T! trust me you’ll love it.
