Cornelia Funke

The Observer | Review | Push one off the cliff
A charming piece on author Cornelia Funke, who is releasing Dragon Rider in August here in the U.S.
My favorite quote from the interview comes at the end: “Funke is a champion of reading aloud. She describes words as being like ‘butterflies pressed between the pages – the voice releases them’.”

  2. Inkheart is one of the best books I’ve ever read! It takes you on such an adventure! The only other books that I’ve read that are that good are The Theif Lord and the Harry Potter series. Right now, I’m trying to get my Reading teacher to read it!

  6. i love Inkheart and the Thief Lord! I thought it was funny when Barborossa turned into a boy of four! I hope Scipio turns back into a boy. I love Inkheart! It was so exciting and a little bit scary. It was an adventure, a mystery and a novel.

  8. i am 11 years old and i have read inkheart and i am reading inkspell i absoutly love both books. i love to write but when i try to write something with such imagniation it comes out horrible. in inkspell i am in the chapter when maggie fengolio and fengolios land lady is going to ombra. i cant wait to finish reading and pat mac you should get a life. we arent book nerds its just that we dont like to waist our time watching tv or going on the computer every second of every day. personally i dont like reading that much but when i find a book i really like i stick with it even if its 1,000 pages. inkspell is the longest book i have ever read and it feels like a great accomplishment when you are done with it.

They make you forget the world around you… I hope your making more books because lately its been hard to find a good author most of them make only short books and you have a hard time getting your imagination working…
    I love your books,

  16. Hi Cornelia,
I love your books. I read the first one at school then I decided to buy it because I liked it that much. On mine it says something like ‘Soon to be a major mmotion picture’. I was so excited and I jumped on to the computer to see what the charactors were like. To tell you the truth I think the movie charactors ruin the way I see the book. Particularly Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Rafi Gavron- basically all of them. I can’t wait until Inkdeath comes out but I’m dragged down by the movie charactors. Thank you for writing the books but are you sure it has to be a trilogy??? Can’t there be more? Sorry that this is so confusing.

  17. Kay, well I know that this is not going to cornelia funke but one of her goons that check her email for her. But I need this to go to Cornelia. I heard that the Inkdeath is the last book to the inkheart trilogy, and for the last few days i couldnt sleep. I was up for hours on end thinking about all the characters in inkheart and inkspell. c the thing is, meggie, mo, resa, dustfinger, elinor, darius, farid, roxane, and all of the strolling players r my family. I have read Inkheart 4 times and Inkspell 3 times. I cannot explain the realtionship i made with cornelias characters. I kno its weird. But i feel in love with 2 of her characters. Farid and dustfinger. My love for farid is even deeper, but wen i read dustfinger had died, the words on the pages blurred and dripped of pain, affection, and love. the 3 things that dustfinger never showed. I hope this letter goes to cornelia. Just like Elinor once said, If something bad happens (like this letter not reaching cornelia) then ill b able to sense it. It happens in all the stories. I will have those dreams of bloodshed like dustfinger. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, tell cornelia whoever u r, that i need her to go on with the trilogy. AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, reply back. Ill b waiting. But i am not waiting for one of her goons. i want cornelia herself. I dont care how long it takes, but i want her. I need her to continue it. Until i get a reply back, i wont b able to sleep. thank you.

  19. I LOVE Cornelia Funke’s books. I am a true nerd when it comes to books and proud of it! Believe it or not I’m planning on camping outside the nearest book store to buy the last Ink book and any loyal fans will join me. The only problem I have with the Inkheart cast is that Farid’s wearing shoes. It is clearly stated that he ALWAYS GOES BAREFOOT!
