Dear Mr. Myers,
I found this letter in my daughters room and found it touching that she thought to reach out to you. She has had a tough year. I would like to forward it on to you:
“Dear Mr. Myers,
In the memoir you wrote about yourself, Bad Boy, I realized I had stuff in common with you. In the part of the book, “I am not the center of the Universe,” I read about how it was your birthday and that your mom woke you up by saying your unle Lee died. I thought it was kind of a coincidence that on my birthday morning, I was woken by my mom saying that my cousin was in the hospital. A week later he died. But, anyway, I just thought it was kind of cool that we had things in common. I also think it would be kind of cool if you could write me back with some cool information about yourself now. You are one of my favorite authors. Thank you for taking your time to read this and I understand if you can’t write me back. Can you just send something back so I know that you read it. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Olivia R. Meighen”

Dear Mr. Myers…
I am a student at Lapeer West Highschool in Lapeer Michigan. My most favored woman in this world (Daryll DeBano)offers a class called Contemporary American Lit. Also, she hold a book club after school, and coordinates school activities for March (reading month) and lends out her books that she pays for. She bascally has her own library. So this year she has made her her “literary slave” and it is my job to find email addresses of great writers. For reading month we are holding a contest for who can write the best summary of their fav book. We plan to have many winners, and the ideal prize for these students would be an autographed copy of a book. We are taking what ever we can and so I was wondering of you’d like to also make a donation. It would be greatly appreciated and your book would be put in good hands. Either way if you could contact me back that would be awesome! Thank so much!

Dear Mr. Myers,
I’m doing a school project about you and your writing. I was wondering if you could write me an email with some information. In your (stupendous!) book, MONSTER, How are you attempting to portray “city life”? The rest of this is going to sound like a fan letter… Ahem: I love your work! Fallen Angels really changed my life, and my grandfather was glad that I understood just how bad war is. In MONSTER, your court writing helped my friend and I write a short screenplay. You are an amazing writer, and you deserve every award that you have been given. I may be a 13- year old, but I love to read and write and I know when there’s a book worthy of everyone’s attention. your pieces even inspire some of mine, (but I would never think of snatching a title or a name :->). Please, give me an email – plunderjmj@aol.com– so that I can (If you want) send you some of my own works in progress. Thank you for your time, and hello Mr/Mrs website manager (please let this through!).

Walter Dean Myers:
I am a school librarian quite familiar with the merits of your work. In an effort to promote literacy, and intergenerational communication, I have recommended Monster as the first book in our One Book, One Church program. This will enable us to address some key issues for discussion such as responsibility, choice, fear, reputation, following others, respect, etc. As a resident of Philadelphia, it is my hope that young boys and girls truly benefit from this experience. I am also happy to promote you in the ‘Author Spotlight’ on my website in an effort to introduce you to many adult readers who are unfamiliar with your writing.
Thank you, Walter Dean Myers!

Dear Mr. Dean Myers,
My eighth grade class and I read The Glory Field over the summer for summer reading. First of all we’d like to say we all loved the book. However through further review with our history teacher, we became confused over why the Lewis’ only received eight acres of land instead of forty acres. According to Special Field Order 15# issued by Gen. Sherman the compensation granted to freed slaves in parts of coastal South Carolina was forty acres and a mule. So is there a particular reason the Lewis’ only received eight acres of land.
Sincerely,
