
The 2005 Jane Addams Peace Awards have been announced. “Books chosen for the Awards effectively address themes or topics that promote peace, justice, world community, and/or equality of the sexes and all races. The books must also meet conventional standards of literary and artistic excellence.”
The winners are:
Younger Children: Selavi, That is Life: A Haitian Story of Hope by Youme Landowne.
Older Children: With Courage and Cloth: Winning the Fight for a Woman’s Right to Vote by Ann Bausum.

My name is Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury and I am a journalist, columnist, author ,editor and peace activist. On completion of my masters in journalism, I joined Itar-Tass, state news agency of Russian Federation as its correspondent. Later I was promoted to the rank of Chief Correspondent. In 1996 I joined as the Special Correspondent of leading English language daily The New Nation. In 1997 I joined as the CEO and Managing Director of A-21 Television. In 2001 I joined vernacular daily Inqilab as its Special Correspondent as well the CEO and Managing Director of ITV.

In 2003, I was arrested by the Bangladesh government for my campaign against the Islamist radicals and for supporting peace in Israel.
