2011 Scott O’Dell Award

The winner of the 2011 Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction is

One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia!  Hurrah!

I’m hoping this is just the first award for this great book.

Thanks to Roger Sutton, chair of the O’Dell committee, for announcing this on his blog.

  1. I’m not surprised, and rather pleased. One of my reluctant readers came in and said that she wanted historical fiction, and when asked of what time period, she said “the civil rights movement”. She had picked this one up because of the cover and liked it so much she wanted another!

  2. I read this book last year. Had a little trouble getting into it, but it grew on me and then I just needed to finish it. Does a great job sinking you into the time period.
