Hunger Games Posters

Oh my, now this is one gorgeous line of posters!  Spread across several movie and entertainment sites, you can see the new posters for The Hunger Games movie due out on March 23rd.

IGN has Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, as well as links to the other posters.  My favorites are Rue, Katniss and Cinna.  Lovely!

Here is Rue:

How about you?  Do you have a favorite?

Dr. Seuss Movie

And I’m not talking a movie based on one of his books, but instead a film based on his life.  The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil are developing a film about the life of Theodor Geisel.

The other big news is that Johnny Depp will be producing with the potential of him starring as Dr. Seuss as well.

Hunger Games Sequel Scheduled

With all of the hype and interest in The Hunger Games film, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Lionsgate has already scheduled the release of the sequel.

Catching Fire, the movie, is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2013.  Put it on your calendar! Winking smile

Tuxedo Gin–The Movie

Disney will be adapting the Japanese manga Tuxedo Gin into a film called Tux.  Robert Ben Garant, co-writer of Night at the Museum, will be writing the script.  Garant will also be executive producing along with Isamu Kamei.

One wonders what Disney will do with what is said to be a gritty storyline.  We know they can handle the penguin element, but how much Disney-fication will have to occur to make the story work for them.

Has anyone read the original graphic novel series of Tuxedo Gin?

New Movie Trailers

Discovered two trailers for upcoming movies that I’m very excited to see!

The first is a trailer for Hugo, the Martin Scorsese film based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.

The second is a trailer for Arrietty, a film by the amazing Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli, that did Totoro, Ponyo and many others.  It is based on The Borrowers by Mary Norton.

Another Percy Jackson Movie Is Coming

Thor Freudenthal has been hired to direct the second film in the Percy Jackson series, according to /Film.  He will be following Chris Columbus, who directed the first movie.  The first film was not a huge hit, but neither was it a flop.

I’m intrigued by the concern expressed about the age of Logan Lerman, the star of the films, who is now 19.  Goodness, hasn’t it been a long-running choice to cast older actors as teens?  We only have to look at Hunger Games for that.

So what do you think?  Are you eager for a second Percy Jackson movie?  And what about Lerman’s age?

Punk Farm–The Movie

MGM has announced that it will be doing an animated version of Punk Farm, based on the picture book by Jarrett Krosoczka.  While MGM is not known for animated films, this project will be a major one for the studio as it emerges from bankruptcy.  We will just have to wait and see what the CG animation looks like.

Movie News

A couple of news items about movies based on teen novels:

Jamie Campbell Bower is in talks for the lead of Jace in The Mortal Instruments movies.  Lily Collins has already been signed to play Clary Fray.

You can also read about Cassandra Clare’s response to his audition tape.

According to Deadline, Mary Harron has been selected to direct Wicked Lovely.  The script was written by Caroline Thompson and will be produced by Vince Vaughn, Victoria Vaughn and Peter Billingsley.  Harron has most recently director The Moth Diaries.
