Airman Movie

ImageMovers and Disney will be producing a film of Eoin Colfer’s Airman.  Robert Zemeckis is involved in the film and Gil Kenan will be directing.  The film will be made using motion capture animation, which can be hit-or-miss.

The book read like an action-adventure film, so it is a logical novel to adapt to cinema.  IMDB has the film listed for release in 2011.

Sweet Valley High, the Movie?!

The author of the screenplay for Juno is set to adapt The Sweet Valley High series for the big screen.  And just after most libraries finally weeded the bulk of the very long series.

I remember the series being one of a group that in the nineties you absolutely did not weed.  They sat on the shelves until they were in tatters.  Other series that could not be weeded at the time were RL Stine and Christopher Pike.  No matter how old they got, they still checked out constantly.

I was so thrilled when I could finally get those old books off of the shelves as their use went down and get newer titles.  And now, now they are making a feature film?!  Why now?  It also looks like they have already been made into a TV series in 1994 when they were still hot.

So my big question for all of you practicing YA librarians is whether you still have Sweet Valley on your shelves and whether they still go out.

Raise a Wild Banner!

Warner Brothers has released eight new character banners for the film Where the Wild Things Are.  I am in love.  You can check them out at /Film here and here.

My two favorite Wild Things are:

Wicked Lovely Coming to Film!

Universal Pictures has purchased the film rights to Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.  Caroline Thompson, screenwriter of Edward Scissorhands, will be adapting it for the screen.

How soon can we start speculating on cast members?

New Movie Posters

Oo la la!  Two new gorgeous movie posters for the two movies based on children’s books that I am most looking forward to!

Gorgeous!  Now if the films can just live up to both the books and the posters!

Alice in Wonderland Trailer

A trailer for Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland film.  Colorful, strange, and uniquely Burton.  I just hope it stays true to the books for a good part of the language.

Alice in Wonderland Movie

Breathtaking images from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland film by Tim Burton are now on display at Rotten Tomatoes.  They also have an intriguing website for the film.  I can’t think of a better director for a film based on such a surreal book.  And even better, it has a superb cast!  Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, and Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar.  You can check out the entire cast on IMDB

Lemony Snicket Sequel

/Film has the fascinating news that the next Lemony Snicket film could be in a completely different format: stop-motion animation!  I love the final quote of the piece on how they will explain the move to animation vs. real actors:

Silberling says that they film could open up the movie with Lemony Snicket telling the audience, ‘Okay, we pawned the first film off as a mere dramatization with actors. Now I’m afraid I’m going to have to show you the real thing.’

Very much in the spirit of Snicket, don’t you think?
