Girls Get Graphic

The New York Times has an article on the huge push from DC Comics to promote Minx, a new line of graphic novels for girls.  Cecil Castellucci, a great teen novelist, has been commissioned to write them.  Hurrah!

I will be very interested to see what this new venture creates, especially seeing that it is said to be the largest promotional push that DC Comics has done in 30 years!

  1. This great news for many artist and writers. As soon as this starts with DC, other big publishers in jump on the bandwagon and in 5 years kill off the little publishers. It’s a shame, they want a piece of that pie. Good for the writers and artists for now. The money making machine will eat you up and spit you out when there is nothing to chew on as soon as sales go down. I hope it lasts a long time, but I have my doubts.

  2. So what can we do to protect those small publishers? I am hoping that graphic novel readers continue their love of the small press, wacky ideas, and creative content. I wonder if DC and other larger publishers will be willing to take the risks that the small presses do now.
