Entertainment Weekly has the news that Lionsgate has cast the District 11 tributes, Thresh and Rue. Nicely, they are both played by newcomers. Thresh will be played by Dayo Okeniyi. The vital part of Rue will be played by Amandla Stenberg. Look at that face!

Hm.
While on one hand I’m glad they’re selecting newcomers, I am hoping that the ethnic mix in the casting balances so that it’s not all brown-skinned characters who die or are brutish; it would be nice if some of the heroes were brown-skinned too.
So far, that’s not actually happening. Of course, they’re not done yet.

I think I like their choice for Rue. She has an innocence mixed with resolve about her.
